What parents of teens tell us on the first call

Most parents can't name it exactly. They just know something changed.

Anxiety that runs the whole house

"I'm fine," and nothing else

Pressure about grades, college, or being perfect

Friends, group chats, or being left out

Living in their phone, or hiding in it

Anger that comes out sideways

A sadness that won't lift

Two homes, and a teen caught in the middle

Something they said that scared you

A move, a loss, or a hard year

If what's happening at your house isn't on this list, bring it anyway.

How teen therapy works here

A free 15-minute call

We talk through what's going on, answer your questions, and tell you honestly whether we're a fit.

A parents-only intake

You meet with your teen's therapist on your own first to go through the whole story. A deposit holds the appointment.

A first session together

Your teen's first session starts with you in the room so everyone hears the goals. Then their therapist starts getting to know them.

Weekly teen therapy

In person, same day and time each week, with the same therapist.

Parent coaching every four weeks

By video, without your teen, after their therapist has checked with them about what to share. You hear what's getting better and what's still hard, and you get coaching on what to try at home. It's a standing session, billed at the regular session rate, and every family has one.

Progress isn't a straight line, especially with teens. Some weeks look harder before they look better. We'll tell you what we're seeing along the way.

What it costs

We'd rather you know now than find out on the call.

Hannah Ly, LMFT: $270 a session

Founder and Clinical Director

Sabrina Yglesias, LMFT: $250 a session

Licensed Therapist

Bailey Verhulst, ASW: $200 a session

Associate Therapist

Weekly therapy is a real commitment of time and money. We say so up front because it only works when a family can keep coming.

What We Ask of You

Teens need a room that's theirs. They also need parents who understand what's going on underneath.

If you want your teen fixed without being part of it, we're not the right fit, and we'll say so on the first call.

Book a Free 15-Minute Call

Fifteen minutes with me, Hannah. You tell me what's happening with your teen. I'll ask a few questions, answer yours, and tell you honestly whether we're the right fit. If we're not, I'll try to point you somewhere that is. There's a question about cost on the booking form so nobody is surprised. And if this week turns out calmer by the time we talk, keep the call anyway. The pattern is still worth understanding.

What Happens on the Call

1

You tell us what's going on.

We ask a few questions, explain how we work, and answer yours. No evaluation, no paperwork.

2

We talk about matching.

Which therapist fits your teen's age, what's going on, and your schedule. We'll tell you who we think is the right match (usually one of our other therapists, each trained and supervised by Hannah) and why, and you can request anyone.

3

When you're ready, we get you scheduled.

There's no pressure to decide on the call. If you'd like to move forward, we can book your intake while we're on the phone and take a non-refundable deposit to hold it. The intake is just for parents; your teen doesn't come to that one.

Don't see a time that works? Email hello@yourtherapynook.com with a few times that suit you and we'll make one work. Booking at night or on a weekend? Just pick the first weekday time.

Teen therapy that doesn't feel like an interview

Most teens don't want to sit across from an adult and answer questions. So we don't do that.

Sessions might be talking while drawing, playing a card game, or working through whatever is on their mind that week. Their therapist gets curious about who your teen actually is: what they're into, what's hard, and what they won't say at home.

What gets shared with you

  • Before every parent coaching session, your teen's therapist asks them what's okay to share with you.

  • You'll hear themes: what's getting better, what's still hard, and what you can do at home.

  • You won't get a transcript of what your teen said.

  • Safety is the exception. If your teen is at risk, you will know, and your teen gets a say in how you're told.

Questions parents ask

Is this bad enough to need therapy?

Most parents ask that. If it's worrying you, it's worth a conversation. The first call is free, and part of it is helping you figure out whether therapy makes sense right now.

What if my teen doesn't want to come?

That's common. They don't need to be excited. They need to come in. Most teens decide within the first few sessions whether this person is someone they can talk to. If it isn't working, we'll tell you honestly.

What will I hear about my teen's sessions?

Themes, progress, and what you can do at home, after your teen's therapist checks with your teen about what's okay to share. Anything about safety, you'll always hear.

Do you take insurance?

No. We're private pay only, $200 to $270 a session depending on the therapist. We do provide superbills, so if your plan has out-of-network benefits you can submit one for reimbursement.

We're going through a separation. Can you help?

Yes. Teens often feel caught in the middle of two homes. We don't do custody evaluations or write letters for court. We're your teen's therapist, and that's the whole role. If there's an active court case, we'll talk on the first call about whether we're the right fit.

Do you offer telehealth?

Teen sessions are in person only. Parent coaching is by video.
